‘BTM’ or bottom defines a gay male’s role sexually, frequently used on ‘Grindr’, a gay online dating platform.
Utilising ‘Grindr’ as a database of research, Cotgrave is able to translate an array of language into visual semiotics.
The installation parodies the role gay men, himself included, take when using the app. Challenging sexual norms, whilst highlighting the ways gay men are sexually active, in today’s digitally saturated culture.
