You are invited to the second exhibition in the Open series, presenting early career artists predominantly from the North, whose work came to us through submissions and expressions of interest. Throughout LightNight Liverpool 2016, some of the artists will also be hosting demonstrations and performances.
OPEN 2: PIECES OF YOU
In Pieces of You, each of the six artists share a curiosity in exploring how we gather and make meaning of our experiences. The exhibition offers new ways of experiencing and thinking about photography – making structures within the gallery to enter the artist’s narrative space, toying with standard ideas of display.  We will be constructing a working black and white darkroom inside the gallery to elevate the process of capturing and sharing photography to somewhere between residency and exhibition, and working with a sculptor / photographer collaboration to explore the boundaries of the knowledge available in the photographic image.
PHOEBE KIELY: IN THE DARKROOM
Pieces of You artist Phoebe Kiely will be spending time in a specially built darkroom to keep her exhibition in a state of constant update. Â An image stream where the act of seeing, recording, developing, printing/sharing are all familiar, but slowed down and grounded in a physical space.
Phoebe will be in the darkroom throughout LightNight 2016 working on her prints and giving three short tours of the darkroom at 6pm, 7:30pm and 9pm.
Whilst as much effort is made in a photographic darkroom to ensure the process of printing is always repeatable, the process still has an air of experimental adventure.
Please note this is not a practical workshop.
NICOLA DALE & STEPHEN ILES: PIECES OF YOU INTERVENTION
Nicola Dale & Stephen Iles are a collaboration of two Manchester artists brought together for Pieces of You. Stephen Iles is a photographer working to exploring the boundaries of the still, set perspective nature of photography and the sealed, final nature of the art space. Nicola is a sculptor who has responded to an increasingly flattened form of understanding by producing works suggesting duration and multiple perspective are more likely to offer a deeper level of engagement.
We remain unsure of what form this intervention might take and what might happen as a result. In terms of an experiment being a course of action with an uncertain outcome, this is certainly an experiment.
VOICE AND RHYTHM
An exciting experimental collaboration between La Bomba Drum Ensemble & Up For Arts Community A Cappella Choir. Bringing together the two groups in a journey of voice and rhythm, this is their first exhilarating collaboration and has been especially created for LightNight. 8pm-8.20pm.
