Professorial Lecture #2 /Â Prof Francesco Manacorda, Artistic Director, Tate Liverpool
Tuesday 14th February, 4pm
LJMU (JFA, JLADB)
Who do we write exhibitions for? The role of the public in the collaborative definition of any sort of text has been explored since the post-structuralist investigations of the 1960s, but never has such an aspect been investigated in relation to exhibition-making and museum/gallery audiences. Using as the starting point the theoretical framework outlined by Umberto Eco in his book ‘The Open Work’ (1962) and his ‘Lector in Fabula’ (1978), this lecture evaluates how curatorial practice can open up to the collaborative contribution of its audience to generate new knowledge.
