SUMMARY:Tate Liverpool: Tate Liverpool: Professorial Lecture #2 / Prof Fran
 cesco Manacorda\, Artistic Director
DESCRIPTION:Professorial Lecture #2 / Prof Francesco Manacorda\, Artistic
 Director\, Tate Liverpool\n\nTuesday 14th February\, 4pm\n\nLJMU (JFA\, JL
ADB)\n\nWho do we write exhibitions for? The role of the public in the co
llaborative definition of any sort of text has been explored since the pos
t-structuralist investigations of the 1960s\, but never has such an aspec
t been investigated in relation to exhibition-making and museum/gallery au
diences. Using as the starting point the theoretical framework outlined b
y Umberto Eco in his book ‘The Open Work’ (1962) and his ‘Lector in
Fabula’ (1978)\, this lecture evaluates how curatorial practice can ope
n up to the collaborative contribution of its audience to generate new kno
 wledge.
