To coincide with Open Eye Gallery’s current exhibition, Craig Easton: Is Anybody Listening?, we are inviting you to join us online for a one hour conversation exploring the ethical considerations and role of social documentary photography today.

Craig Easton’s practice seeks to challenge typical stereotypes of Northern communities through authentic representation. Is Anybody Listening? features two award winning series, which attempt to highlight this: Bank Top and Thatcher’s Children.

Craig will introduce the two projects to set the scene, followed by an in-conversation and round table style discussion with Open Eye Gallery’s Head of Exhibitions Mariama Attah, Open Eye Gallery’s Head of Social Practice, Liz Wewiora and you, our audience.

We are keen for you to contribute to the discussion, exploring topics including the role of the ‘outsider’ photographer, ethical and critically engaged approaches to working with communities and the increasing responsibility of the photographer in a time where social media shifts the dynamics of who and how stories are shared.

Is Anybody Listening? is presented by the University of Salford and generously supported by the National Heritage Lottery Fund and includes a dedicated engagement programme, Our Time, Our Place, which aims to raise the aspirations of young people across the North West region.
