Katy Shepherd was shortlisted for this year’s First Prize and was Highly Commended by the judging panel.
Katy was born in Bournemouth in 1961. She studied at Sheffield Polytechnic (1980–83) and the Royal College of Art, London (1989-91).
Katy will be talking about her Highly Commended work ‘Bedscape2’, part of a series of works started in 2021, in response to COVID and the enforced periods of isolation she experienced. Having never considered herself a painter of landscapes or still lifes, the surface of her duvet appeared to form a fantastical landscape full of peaks, escarpments and folds. Somewhere she could gladly go to escape reality.
Katy will tell us more about how this series of works developed with a more detailed discussion of her process of creating the Highly Commended ‘Bedscape2’.
Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a curious creative, or simply someone who loves a great conversation, this is an unmissable opportunity to connect with some of the most exciting voices in contemporary painting today.
A small number of chairs will be provided for people who are unable to stand for an extended period of time. The gallery is wheelchair accessible with a lift from ground to first floor galleries.
