City Shards – Anne Desmet
Private view – Thursday 8th December 5.30-8.00pm
– until 11th January
It has been far too long since we last hosted a solo exhibition by one of our favourite printmakers. Anne Desmet is an internationally renowned printmaker who lives and works in London but often returns to the architecture of her native Livepool for inspiration for new pieces. Anne’s work is known for featuring iconic architecture from London and Italy, using the highly controlled medium of wood-engraving to fashion incredibly detailed renderings of significant buildings. However, she alway manages to include exquisite descriptions of her Liverpool favourites.
Although Anne works in a traditional medium she experiments with techniques that add new dimensions to her subjects and this show features both her more traditional printmaking combined with collages of her work on ceramics.
Anne Desmet RA is an established artist who specialises in wood engravings, linocuts and mixed media collages. She has had three major museum retrospectives to date, received over 30 international awards, and her work is in museum collections and publications worldwide. She was elected a Member of London’s Royal Academy of Arts in May 2011. For 15 years she was editor of Printmaking Today magazine and is the author/editor of three printmaking books.
