Sunday 12th May 11:30am – 5pm (£50 for 1 day)
Textile Art is one of the oldest forms of art with fragments dating back to prehistoric times and cultures globally developing their own techniques for decorating fabrics. Today, contemporary artists adopt those techniques in exciting ways.
In this workshop, you will learn a variety of skills such as hand painting and printing, batik (wax resist), Japanese shibori (resist dye) and hand stitch.
Catherine will provide information about each technique along with examples, giving short demonstrations throughout the day. Each activity is suitable for beginners and simply requires creativity! Materials and equipment are provided however, students are asked to bring a set of their own fabric paints.
In exploring these textile techniques, students should expect to produce a series of A4/A5 samples which can be pictoral or abstract, the focus is on creativity. The samples can be framed individually or used to create something functional such as quilt, bag, cushion cover, gift card, etc. Having over 20 years experience as a textile artist, Catherine is happy to share her experience and ideas. A hand out ‘notes’ booklet is included with references for method and further reading. Suitable for age 16 and upwards.
