Today\, contempor ary artists adopt those techniques in exciting ways.\nIn this workshop\, y ou will learn a variety of skills such as hand painting and printing\, bat ik (wax resist)\, Japanese shibori (resist dye) and hand stitch.\nCatherin e will provide information about each technique along with examples\, givi ng short demonstrations throughout the day. Each activity is suitable for beginners and simply requires creativity! Materials and equipment are prov ided however\, students are asked to bring a set of their own fabric paint s.\nIn exploring these textile techniques\, students should expect to prod uce a series of A4/A5 samples which can be pictoral or abstract\, the focu s is on creativity. The samples can be framed individually or used to crea te something functional such as quilt\, bag\, cushion cover\, gift card\, etc. Having over 20 years experience as a textile artist\, Catherine is ha ppy to share her experience and ideas. A hand out 'notes' booklet is inclu ded with references for method and further reading. Suitable for age 16 an d upwards.\nTutor: Catherine Carmyllie\nCatherine Carmyllie is a Liverpool based Artist currently working across painting and textile art. She compl eted a Textile Art degree at Huddersfield University before spending 6 mon ths at The Arts and Crafts Academy of Kuopio\, Finland where she had the o pportunity to learn ancient Scandinavian skills such as bookbinding\, weav ing\, feltmaking amongst others.
