Making a Difference:
Celebrating 10 years of outreach projects
Saturday 25 January – Saturday 7 March 2020
In 2020 the Bluecoat Display Centre will celebrate our 10-year anniversary as a registered charity. To mark the occasion, we have curated a special exhibition that highlights our outreach programme of artist workshops and residencies with local health, social care and education partners over the past decade.
The bdc’s outreach projects have demonstrated the benefits of craft for health and wellbeing in the local community, as well as its importance in education and learning. Our partners have included the Royal Liverpool University and Broadgreen Hospitals, The Walton Centre, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, The Life Rooms, Clock View Hospital, Person Shaped Support (PSS), The Brain Charity, Maggie’s Merseyside at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Liverpool Hope University, Manchester Metropolitan University, Bolton University, The University of Central Lancashire and local schools.
The residencies and workshops have also provided valuable professional development opportunities for makers across a range of disciplines, including ceramics, textiles and printmaking. Many residencies have included a final installation by the artist which can be viewed at partner organisations. In 2019 Christine Toh designed cards using artwork by patients at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, proceeds of which go to the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen NHS Trust.
