JÓL – the old Norse Winter Solstice celebration of the returning of the light after the short days and long nights of winter.
This exhibition will concentrate on beautifully handcrafted works in wood, metal, textiles, leather, ceramics and glass by leading makers from the UK and beyond to either give as gifts or use over the festive period.
With a strong emphasis on simplicity and quality the exhibition will aim to evoke the sense of peace and tranquility reminiscent of winter nights gathered around the fire with friends and family sharing stories and food as a welcome antidote to the frenetic, throw away culture of the modern Christmas celebration.
The makers will include
Basketry – Lorna Singleton and Nadine Anderson
Glass – Benefield Spencer
Wood – Alex De Vol, David Mellor &
Textiles – Laidain Aiken, Mourne Textiles, Louisa Loakes
Ceramics – Mizuyo Yamashita, Anna Silverton, Wood Woven, Yasha Butler,
