Godfrey Pilkington Gallery: ‘Automata’ by David Ogle

22 June – 9 July 2011 at The Godfrey Pilkington Gallery. ‘Automata’  by David Ogle
Exhibition preview: Tuesday 21 June 6.00 – 8.00pm

This exhibition will display a range of practices by David Ogle from kinetic installation and digital video to more traditional line drawing, examining different aspects of his current experimentation.

Artist in Residence in The Gamble building from April – October 2011, this exhibition is an opportunity for the public to see the work that David has been developing in recent months.

His work studies the notion of drawing, its fundamental properties and different approaches to the creation of line and form. Works on paper attain illusionary three-dimensional qualities, whilst sculptural installations transfer an aesthetic of flatness into new spatial situations.

As part of his SCART residency and exhibition artist David Ogle offers this special workshop exploring the creative process leading to the creation of his work.  The workshop will offer participants a range of different approaches to drawing using the computer and will encourage users to experiment and interact with specifically written software that explores the notion of digital mark making.  As well as producing on screen artwork, users will be offered an introduction to writing basic computer code and learn how this can be used to develop ideas. This workshop will allow participants to experience first hand the ideas and processes central to the artist’s exhibition.
