Liverpool students are bringing the city’s history to life.

Second year students from Liverpool John Moores University drama department have put together a new piece of theatre ‘Around the Pool in 800 Years’ proudly celebrating Liverpool’s 800th birthday in 2007.

Travelling back as far as the Royal Charter in 1207, the play tells the story of both its achievements and difficulties, highs and lows. From the 18th century when Liverpool was a major slave port to the powerful world sea power of Empire in the 19th and from the birth of The Beatles and Merseybeat to present day Capital of Culture, supported throughout by a live band.

A 55-strong cast have worked with Drama Head David Llewellyn and well-known local dramatists and tutors Paula Simms and Andrew Sherlock to produce the compelling portrayal.

The performance takes place at St George’s Hall, which has also played its own part in Liverpool’s history, from Thursday 22 to Saturday 24 February at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £7 for adults and £3 for concessions, and are available from the Royal Court Theatre. To book call 0870 787 1866

Please note there will be limited availability for the Friday performance and a £2 transaction charge applies on all debit and credit payments.
