Liverpool artists are exhibiting alongside the work of students from Alsop High School and Hope University in a festival which aspires to become an ongoing exhibition. The exhibition will be making history, as this is the first of its kind, and no other exhibition has ever been displayed in this building. The building has to be visited in order to experience the vision these artists have for its future, as it is so huge, and the  exhibition will take place in several sections of the building.
Leading up to the festival, the artists had a free tour of the building led by the owner John McKenzie, and were surprised by its stories.
The site is regarded as one of the most haunted in the UK and started out as a seaman’s orphanage, later being used as a mental institution.
The original plans for the building were for it to be renovated into a restaurant, but a local artist has convinced the owner that be converting it into a space for ongoing arts events such as this would help the area, and breathe some life back into the unloved space.
All works will be for sale, and the artists are giving 20% of all sales towards the building, in a bid to help the building open its doors to the arts.
There will be food & drink, workshops and an exhibition including sculpture, painting, installation and drawings over the festival, and the organisers also hope to have live music in the court yard.
