After two previous spellbinding visits, we’re delighted to announce that Shakespeare’s Globe is returning to Calderstones Mansion House this summer with the Bard’s classic and arguably most popular tale of two star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet.
The Globe’s award-winning small-scale tours return on Friday 24th of July and Saturday 25th July with a brand newproduction. It will be the last touring show at Shakespeare’s Globe under the Artistic Directorship of Dominic Dromgoole, who started taking Globe shows on the road in 2007 and has been the driving force behind the Globe’s touring programme. Supported by up-and-coming director Tim Hoare, Dromgoole will direct a fresh new exploration of Shakespeare’s greatest love story.
A violent street brawl between their rival families is the prelude to Romeo’s first encounter with Juliet. Despite this, and the fact Juliet has been promised to another, they fall in love. But their hopes for future happiness are cruelly destroyed by renewed violence between their families and tragedy begins to unfold.
A small troupe of travelling players takes to the road with Shakespeare’s classic tale of star-crossed lovers. Performed at the Globe, and on an Elizabethan-style booth stage at a variety of beautiful and inspiring settings across the UK, Europe and the US, this production breathes new life into one of the greatest of all love stories. The fast-paced, stripped-down adaptation will see the company double up roles and break down boundaries between actors and audience.
Once again audiences will have the chance to experience this Shakespearean classic in the beautiful surroundings of the Calderstones Mansion House private garden and are encouraged to bring a blanket or low backed chair to enjoy the very best of outdoor theatre.
Tickets are available through the Shakespeare’s Globe website http://www.shakespearesglobe.com/theatre/whats-on/globe-theatre/romeo-and-juliet-2015
