“Eyewash Exhibition”
3 – 14 February 2010 at Contemporary Urban Centre (ground floor)
A group exhibition of work by emerging and established Liverpool based artists, showing together for the first time.
I like this. Several artists I have not seen before, except Debbie Ryan of course. Its new and fresh (like eyewash?) and a bit edgy, a bit dark, a bit playful. Curated by UAW-CAT (a real person not a trade union) whose own work is placed well above head height – ‘Art for very tall people’ apparently and is accompanied by strange noises from the adjacent cupboard.
Penelope Teapot’s knitted things are clever and cute, Michael Hollywood’s paintings seem to tell a frighteningly dramatic story and Craig Robson’s skilfully drawn T shirt designs are the stuff of fantasy/sci-fi.
All good. Who are these people? Where have they been hiding? I want to see more, its only here for 2 weeks, take a look.
Artists: Craig Sinclair, Craig Robson, Clare Chinnery, Penelope Teapot, Lauren ‘Dusty’ Devin, Robi Morris, Frances Masey-O’Neill, Michael Hollywood, Debbie Ryan, UAW CAT
