One of the most parodied poems of all time, Casabianca which opens: ‘The boy stood on the burning deck, whence all but he had fled..‘ was written by Felicia Hemans who was one of the best-selling lyric poets of the nineteenth century and she was born in Duke Street, Liverpool.
This and other favourite poems will be read by North End Writers in various Liverpool libraries on National Poetry Day this Thursday.
