Eight New Designers or Artists Wanted

Design Initiative is looking for eight designers, makers or artists looking to set up new a new creative business from October 2006 – September 2008.

Placements on offer cover: 3D design; Animation; Fine Art; Digital & New Media; Fashion Design; Interior & Spatial Design; Jewellery; Public Art; Sculpture; Textiles and TV

The Setting Up Scheme offers free studio space, equipment, start-up funding, training, business advice, industry contacts and promotion opportunities to makers, designers and artists who want to establish their own freelance business in Greater Manchester. Placements will be based across Greater Manchester (Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, Wigan)

The Setting Up Scheme has been developed by Arts Council England, North West as an intensive business incubation project that offers a unique creative collaboration between an artist / designer and a public or private Host organisation such as a university, gallery, museum or other creative organisation – with each benefiting from the other. Every Host Organisation has something valuable to offer their individual placement designer or artist and the Scheme as a whole, from specialist equipment to industry contacts and knowledge.

Former Setting Up Scheme artists have exhibited internationally, showed at major design fairs, attracted high profile national press coverage, curated exhibitions, submitted successful grant applications, diversified their skills and seen successful trading turnover. The Setting Up Scheme has been running for 13 years. 90% of its artists established successful businesses by the end of their time on the scheme.
