Felt is the oldest form of textile predating knitting, weaving, embroidery & all the others! Using just moisture, warmth and friction, fibres from plants & animals are turned into a fabric. The process is magical, relaxing and can be super creative. Catherine Carmyllie is a Liverpool based artist who learnt the skill of feltmaking in Scandinavia where she studied at an Arts & Crafts academy and has been using felt techniques in her textile art ever since as a full time Artist.

In this workshop, Catherine explains her process and provides a short demonstrartion with 1st hand examples. She will explore different techniques and ultimately, you will produce 2 or 3 projects:

– an abstract felt piece to wall mount or further stitch into something else, can be Christmas themed or other.

– a felted bowl vessel or pod – can be used as a birds nest, a jewellery pod or lovely decorative item.

– felted flower shapes – we add pin backs allowing the flowers to be used a hair clip, brooch or tree decoration.

Choose from almost 50 shades of merino wool and other exotic fibres such as cashmere, silks, recycled sari yarns, possum fibres, camel down, mohair. No other workshops will give you access to all these techniques, materials and tuition.
