Explore the impact of secondary trauma and resilience in the caring professions through expressive arts
Expressive arts can facilitate a deep processing of the impact of secondary stress, whereby the carer remains separated from the traumatic experience. This is a specialist course, delivered by Sandy D’Silva, aimed at care professionals working in a range of settings and will explore the impact of secondary trauma, which is when a person experiences trauma by helping others who are traumatised. This includes community, health care, probation, social care services and youth work.
In this course, you will use creativity and various art forms to facilitate growth and healing. It will provide a chance to connect with others, reduce isolation and gain a shared knowledge. It will take place over two days. Sessions will comprise gallery-based exercises, group discussions and practical art making activities. There will be a half-day follow-up session, where participants will be asked to reflect on the process.
