‘Stillness and Movement’ by Julie Lawrence
My practice has its roots in Romanticism and the painting language of Turner, Blake and Palmer.
I work intuitively and instinctively in the way that I respond to the landscape and coastal scenery and am interested in the ephemeral and transient relationship between light, movement and matter.
There is a sense of liminality which runs throughout my work which invites the viewer to find a still centre and quiet psychological territory, bordering the threshold between nostalgic association and something unknown.
I have exhibited widely across the UK and was recently awarded North of England Artist of the Year at the National Open Art Competition in London.
