Hilbre Perspective by Jane Morrow
I’ve painted and sketched local landmark, Hilbre Island many times from afar. In the spring and summer I walked out to the island and was astonished and inspired by the beautiful landscapes that greeted me. I say landscapes because from every perspective the landscape changed; from the cottages and buildings on the top, to the rugged sandstone rocks to the sea and the Welsh mountains visible on the other side. This new collection is inspired by all that I saw, with particular interest in the colours and the textures of the place.
On the days that I visited, the skies were cloudy with a strong light. One day being of brilliant blue and the other having subtle shades of grey. I was also inspired by the luminous light in the reflections of the rock pools and the vivid greens of the algae settled on the rocks. As a contemporary impressionist painter I am always concerned with capturing the light and essence of the landscape through which the audience can find a sense of place.
