‘The Boy Stood on The Burning Deck’: a workshop & discussion considering the work and place of Felicia Hemans in Liverpool Poetry

Sunday 11 May / 1 pm – 3 pm / Open Eye Gallery

Felicia Hemans née Browne was born in Liverpool at 118 Duke Street on 25th September 1793. She was a famous poet and best-seller in both America and England, second in popularity to Lord Byron.

There has been a re-evaluation of Hemans’ work in recent years. We will read together her 2 most famous and parodied poems: ‘Casabianca’ (The boy stood on the burning deck…) and ‘The Homes of England’ as well as considering some details of her life and other writings.

We have 14 places available for the workshop.
