Constellations: POSITIONS OF POWER – An exploration of what power means today

An exhibition of new work for Liverpool’s Independent’s Biennial 2018 by Disparaity Collective opens at Constellations Art Space and tackles issues of power in a series of diverse and compelling photographs.

Disparity Collective’s #Positions of Power examines both overt and unconventional power, with photographers Keeley Bentley, Drew Forsyth, Claire Griffiths, Mark Hobbs, Jamal Jameel, Abbie Jennings and Conrad Ohnuki questioning and interpreting what “power” means in 2018.

The exhibition has been created as the culmination of Redeye’s Lightbox project, an intensive year-long course which seeks to launch the careers of professional photographers through workshops, networking sessions and support from experts in the photography industry.

Mentored by Manchester Art Gallery curator Kate Jesson, the seven photographers have worked through a programme designed to challenge assumptions, encourage reflection and nurture artistic potential. #Positions of Power is the outcome of this year’s work by the group.

The exhibition and installation feature a variety of photographic prints by the group members, as well as custom designed photo magazines and other media, displayed in the heart of Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle district at Constellations café bar and art space.

The exhibition is free and open to the public from Sat 14th July to Sun 29th July at Constellations, Greenland St, L1 0BS. 10-5pm. Not open Mondays and Tuesdays.

‘Disparity Collective, mentored by Kate Jesson Curator of Manchester Art Gallery, is one of the three formed groups that have come out of this year’s Lightbox course. We are delighted that they have already begun work on the first in progress exhibition at Tapestry Gallery in Liverpool and look forward to seeing the photography they have created as a group. –  Charlie Booth, Redeye
