fs presents ‘Thoughts on the air become words in print’ a book launch and performance lecture by Mark Simmonds as part of ‘Reading Week’ at CBS.
The inaugural book published by CBS and Penny Blue Books documents a conversation lasting 3 hours 15 minutes between the artist, CBS Director Liam Peacock and Manchester-based artist Gideon Vass whilst birdwatching in a Liverpool park on 17 September 2018. As a live addendum to the books launch, Mark presents a work-in-progress performance lecture taking its starting point from a text in a 1985 ornithological journal.
Part exhibition, part contemplative study space, ‘Reading Week’ sees a series of invited artists initiate peer support and study whilst presenting live works that deal with text and reading, words and speaking, linguistics, language, looking and learning. Situated around a specially made, malleable seating installation influenced by a collection of egg cups, an ongoing Reading List will be nestled there too, with the installation playing host to two Saturday afternoon Reading Groups also. All kindly housed in the gallery at CBS.
Mark Simmonds (b. 1987) is a typographer and artist based in Liverpool. Interested in working with source material his work touches on aspects of graphic design, often through autobiographical associations and artefacts.
Mark Simmonds’ ‘Thoughts on the air become words in print’ is the third live event presented as part of ‘Reading Week’. Bird themed cocktails will be served from 18.30 onwards, performance lecture begins at 19.00.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME 🙂
