Poetry as a Gift, a Feeling, and a Portal.
At The Library are pleased to invite you to the public launch of Our Dreams of Jasmine — a multi-lingual publication, and sound piece, containing a collection of love poems selected by women with experience of migration, and written by artist Jessica El Mal.
The love poems span romantic desire and longing, peaceful admiration for flowers and spring, and deep, deep friendships. In the languages of English, Arabic, and Persian, even our very concept of love surpasses one meaning.
In the full bloom of Summer, on Saturday 15th July, you are invited to join us for the launch of Our Dreams of Jasmine publication, and the first public sharing of the sound work, taking place in Bootle Library’s Garden, recently reimagined by Harun Morrison. An arrival DJ set with sound producer Yasmeen Soudani a.k.a Musys, will guide us into a live listening of Our Dreams of Jasmine. The live listening will be followed by readings from the book and a performance from musician and vocalist Rita Kamale.
This launch will be At The Library‘s first major event as an National Portfolio Organisation with Arts Council England, and open to a wider arts audience regionally. We are also excited to host our launch as an associate event of this year’s Liverpool Arab Arts Festival, celebrating Arab arts and culture.
You can RSVP by booking your place on Eventbrite, or find out more information about the event here.
