On this course you will create embellished textile art, learning to work with materials including ribbons, fabrics, beads & fibres using techniques including stitch, hooking, felting & hand embroidery. You will build a small portfolio of sample experiments and work towards developing your ideas for more considered finished pieces.
You will be encouraged to evaluate successes and failures in a constructive way that enables progress and helps your confidence to grow.
This course assumes no prior artistic ability and is suitable for beginners, but experienced artists who wish to explore textile art-making are also welcome to join this class.
Some basic materials are available for you to experiment with until you decide what you need to buy for your own use, and advice will be given on what to buy and where to buy it from. Â Using recycled and freely available low-cost materials is actively encouraged. Small group – maximum of 6 places are available on this course.
You will be working in a warm, creative and inspiring environment inside the Studio where other resident artists work is on display. There is good natural light, parking right at the door in our own car park, central heating and double glazing to keep you feeling cosy!
Each class lasts for 2 hours and runs for 4 weeks, but if you wish to continue on a regular basis then the course will roll on throughout the year if numbers permit.

The tutor for this course is Carolyn Shepherd who is qualified with a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art & Postgraduate Certificate in Fine Art and has exhibited internationally and across the UK. Carolyn is currently completing a Masters Degree in Conceptual Art in a Community Context based on her personal practice. Carolyn also runs the Studios & Gallery.
