‘Inside Out’ at World of Glass, St Helens. 19 March – 8 May 2011
A unique exhibition for The World of Glass. The contemporary creative due ‘Organic Planets’ have created this extraordinary exhibition especially for 2011. Using sound and digital art alongside more traditional art mediums, this is truly one of the highlights of the year.
We will have a specially created intimate viewing cinema and sound installations that will evoke memories and take you on a journey to your future being.
Mark Peel has been helping set up other people’s exhibitions at The World of Glass for years.
But now he’s staging an exhibition of his own at St Helens’ award-winning visitor attraction.
Although he works at The World of Glass as Buildings and Maintenance Supervisor, away from work Mark is a well-known local musician.
And with his friend and collaborator Mali Davies he’s developed an unusual multi-media exhibition which even involved constructing a special mini-cinema for screening their latest work.
Both Mark and Mali, a graphic designer, come from Haydock and have been working together as musicians for 20 years.
Mark says: “The exhibition will contain photography, paintings, music and video all centred around nature and the surrounding environment. It will take viewers on a journey that stimulates their senses and thoughts.”
One journey you can go on in the mini-cinema is a speeded-up trip to the seaside – Carr Mill Dam to Southport sands in eight minutes flat!
The musical arrangements which accompany Mark and Mali’s visuals are on a new album that has been produced for the exhibition and is available from The World of Glass reception.
The exhibition also includes a display featuring a number of rarely seen items from the St Helens Collection, including old pianola rolls, an early wind-up gramophone and an old Bakelite radio.
“We’re putting them alongside more modern devices such as a CD player and MP3 so younger visitors can see just how things have changed down the years,” explains Mark.
Entry to Inside Outside is free and the exhibition runs at The World of Glass until May 8.
