Future Station The Festival6 – 20 November 2010
Exhibition and series of events from Metal’s Future Station group, expect poetry, live music, film screenings, lively debate and installations.
Future Station is a group of local artists and residents who have been meeting at Metal for the past three years helping them during the major refurbishment of the station to create a space for art at the centre of some of Liverpool’s most dynamic communities. Bringing together ideas from across all artistic disciplines, this exhibition and series of events is giving the group members a unique opportunity to experiment, entertain and enlighten audiences with a range of exciting proposals developed collaboratively with the group over the past six months. Expect an eclectic mix of theatre, live music, film, lively debate, painting, drawing and sculpture.
The Future Station Festival in November will feature finished work, work in progress and on the spot happenings from members of the group including; ‘On the Edge’ a documentation of life within small businesses on Wavertree Road by Jane Hughes, a film created in response to the changing landscape of Edge Hill by filmmaker Paul Fred Kelly, a sculpture in progress from artist Adrian Jeans, and The Suitcase Ensemble performing, developing and holding workshops for a new piece of music theatre, plus many more. Please check the website for further details. http://www.metalculture.com
The Future Station group is an open and inclusive network of individuals who meet every month at the station to develop ideas for the spaces, work with Metal’s artists- in-residence, and to create and encourage collaboration between the group. Metal have been based in the area for 6 years working with local residents, schools, individuals and organisations to excavate personal testimonies and imaginative responses to the local area. In October 2009, with help and support from the Future Station group, Metal opened the renovated station buildings at Edge Hill, the world’s oldest existing passenger railway station still in use. The space has become a meeting point for local people and for artists from all disciplines to come together, to create new work and to share ideas. The group is a testament to Metal’s belief that ‘creativity exists everywhere’.
The exhibition will be open Tues-Fri 2-6pm and Saturday 12-4pm across the whole two weeks.
On Saturday 13th November there will be live music, scientific experiments, performances, food and drink and some singing and dancing from 4pm until 10pm.
On Thursday 18th November for the Long Night a live action multimedia installation ‘Border- Less’ will be open until 9pm.
