Liverpool Cathedral £8/7

Marking the centenary of her birth, we celebrate the work of Golden Age actress and inventor Austro American, Hedy Lamarr, celebrated for her great beauty, she starred in numerous films with Spencer Tracy, James Stewart and Groucho Marx. Her most important legacy, is still relatively unknown, she alongside friend George Antheil invented a ‘secret communication system’ an early technique for spread spectrum communications and frequency hopping, which became a constituent part of GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology. This forms the technical backbone that makes wi-fi possible today.

Set in the ornate Lady Chapel, a space dedicated to women, we screen one of her early films Experiment Perilous by Jacques Tournier, followed by a programme of live short films soundtracks by Video Jam.
