Liverpool Cathedral: ‘Far out at Sea’ – Stained Glass exhibition by Kate Bayes

Saturday 23 January – Sunday 7 February 2016, 09.00 – 17.30 (each day)

‘Far out at Sea’ – Stained Glass exhibition by Kate Bayes

‘Far Out At Sea’ exhibition continues the themes from a previous exhibition, ‘Earth’s Human Shores’, which explored and illustrated themes arising from the upheavals and storms caused by a sudden uprooting from the familiar.

Kate Bayes has been working as a stained glass artist for over twenty five years, making a variety of panels using lead and copper foil. Past work includes four panels for the St John’s Church building in High Wycombe and many smaller windows installed in domestic houses.

In 2014 Kate had an exhibition in London at the Bossanyi Studio, Pinner, with the artist and print maker, Frances Carlile. Her focus is very much on interpreting landscape which she refines into essentially figurative but also abstract forms.

Although she has used paint to enhance certain designs, she specialises in using the qualities inherent in antique blown glass and mostly works in a simple and unadorned fashion to construct lines and cuts which reveal the beauty of its colours and patterns.

‘Far Out At Sea’ continues the themes from the exhibition at the Bossanyi Studio, ‘Earth’s Human Shores’, which explored and illustrated themes arising from the upheavals and storms caused by a sudden uprooting from the familiar.
‘Far Out at Sea’ includes two of the larger lead panels from that exhibition alongside the new panels. These are made using copper foil and a mixture of antique and machine-rolled glass and develop ideas and images of stormy skies and seas.

All the panels in the exhibition are for sale but can also be replicated or designed to order. They can be displayed on window ledges or suspended with wire or wooden frames against glass panes. Pricing depends on the complexity of design, the quality of the glass and the time taken to make it.

New designs for windows, front doors and smaller panels can be made to order. If you would be interested in commissioning a window or panel please contact Kate Bayes directly katharinebayes@gmail.com
