 Discover Liverpool’s ‘Cathedral Heroes and Heroines’ in free tours as part of Heritage Open Month
From Noel Chavasse to Alice Blacklock, Liverpool Cathedral has memorials to a wide range of WW1 heroes and heroines. So in partnership with Heritage Open Month the Cathedral archivist and excellent volunteer interpreters are delighted to offer a new tour discovering World War 1 Memorials within the Cathedral. These include our War Memorial Chapel with our Roll of Honour containing the names of Noel Chavasse and Lieutenant Colonel Trotter. We also view the Tablet to the Women’s War Service Bureau, the Memorial to the Nurses of Liverpool and the Robert Jones Memorial Stone – dedicated to the founder of the British School of Orthopaedics and who established the first Military Orthopaedic Hospital before concluding with the 55th West Lancs Division Memorial.
On the above dates and times the tours will be free. Please arrive ten minutes before the tour is about to begin.
The Cathedral’s role of Honour will be on display from 10th – 30th September. Liverpool Cathedral’s link with the Liverpool King’s Regiment and the Pals Battalions is displayed in a new exhibition along with stories of war heroes such as Noel Chavasse brought to life, together with personal stories of soldiers who have a connection with staff or volunteers of the Cathedral.
Heritage Open Month celebrates England’s fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to places that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission for special events.
