“Contemporary Urbanus”, an exhibition of geometric and urban art. The exhibition will display work by MA students Mike Rickett and Paul Doran from Liverpool Hope University and will be opened by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Coun Gary Millar, on November 8 at the Clove Hitch gallery.
Mike and Paul are both founder members of The Liverpool School, a new art movement whose basic aim is to redefine urban art in hard-edge, geometric painting using the Liverpool and northwest landscape as its inspiration.
Their work is inspired by a living city landscape, depicting, or experiencing city life and portraying the beauty and soul of the city. Important also is the relationship of colour in the urban landscape which occupies a unique and privileged place in our cultural experience. As an aesthetic, the urban landscape may be regarded as the vision a society projects about itself into the future.
The Liverpool School now has four members and will be officially launched with an exhibition at Liverpool Cathedral in February, 2014.
