A collection of contemporary art, created by alumni of the University of Chester’s Art and Design Department, will open at the institution’s Kingsway Buildings this week.
Taking place at the University’s new Contemporary Art Space Chester (CASC) gallery, the Alumni exhibition will showcase new and original degree work from a range of Fine Art graduates from the last decade.
The exhibition was the idea of Chris Millward, Techinician within the Art and Design Department at the University, to mark his 10 years of service at the institution this year. Chris, who is also Curator of the exhibition explained: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the Department to reunite former students from far and wide and bring them all ‘home’ to exhibit once more at the new CASC gallery, which was not completed until after most of the artists had graduated.
“There is a strong mixture of sculptural, photographic and painted works on show incorporating various styles, techniques and media. The artists have all maintained an interest in the subject since graduating from the University, and have travelled from all parts of the country to take part in this special occasion, with one artist travelling over from Portugal to exhibit and offer a talk to current students. It has been a delight to meet and work with so many familiar faces and I must thank everybody for contributing to the success of the exhibition.”
