Southport Indoor Market: Art for Macmillan

unnamed2 June – 31 August 2014

Open  Mon – Sat 9.30am – 5pm

Free Entry

An exhibition created during art activities designed especially for children at Southport Indoor Market is growing and it displays the enormous amount of talent  possessed by young visitors to the Market Quarter.  Children eagerly draw and paint opposite The Art For Macmillan unit where all materials including paint, brushes, felt tip pens , crayons and pencils are provided.  All that is required for participation is a donation to an extremely worthwhile charity.

These activities correspond with the current Art For Macmillan exhibition with it’s recently added display of silks and fabrics painted by Annette Bailey. These are one-off items, the creation of which incorporates a variety of fabric painting techniques. The Macmillan Artists, including watercolour painter John West; impasto acrylic painter Brian Beattie; ceramics painter Nancy Mariner; abstract artist Walter Fairclough, photographer Gary Gray and watercolour graphics artist Irene Wilson have extended their exhibition at Southport Indoor Market until  28th September. New art, craft and design works are constantly appear as the turnover is fairly swift.

unnamedThere will also be outdoor art, craft and design demonstrations by Macmillan’s fundraising artists outside the Atkinson on Lord Street on Saturdays in August 11am – 4pm, weather permitting. There will be performances by superb local poets, Petrova C. Fairhurst; Steve Beattie and Christopher Coey.

Children’s drawing and painting activities take place in the market on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 10.30am – 3.30pm. There is no booking required and they will continue until the end of September.

Unit 22, Southport Indoor Market King Street, Southport.
