‘Memories Real and Imagined’ by Karen Gilbert
16 September – 13 October 2010 (View by appointment*)
Solo exhibition by Karen Gilbert. Karen explores paint as a modern medium, searching modes of application and interpretation while still making reference to the long tradition of painting as Art and artefact.
“I explore paint as a modern medium, searching modes of application and interpretation while still making reference to the long tradition of painting as Art and artefact. I am intrigued by representation and application of meanings. My work is textural and tactile so that often it is mistaken as mixed media, such as metallic paint looking like wire or embroidery thread, or dried paint seeming like paper. This is an aspect of paint creating an illusion of reality; representation, but in a non-traditional way.” – Karen Gilbert
Karen has exhibited widely in Liverpool and Merseyside over the past few years and has recently completed a Masters Degree at Liverpool John Moores University, in association with Tate Liverpool.
