Musicians teach parents to sing nursery rhymes

Classical musicians teach parents to sing nursery rhymes
Orchestral musicians have been recruited to teach Merseyside parents how to sing nursery rhymes.

The ‘Song for Home’ project aims to give parents the confidence to sing with their toddlers over fears that the tradition of singing nursery rhymes together has been lost.

The scheme, delivered by musicians from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra through local Sure Start projects, has proved so popular since its launch two years ago that it has now won funding to expand.

Royal Liverpool Philharmonic education manager Judith Agnew said: “We’d discovered that the tradition of parents singing nursery rhymes to their young children was dying out.

“Many parents don’t have the confidence to sing, perhaps because there was less music in schools when they were young and it seems to have left them feeling too self-conscious to sing to their children
