James Joyce set his masterpiece, Ulysses, on the day in June that he’d first walked out with love of his life, Nora Barnacle. It has become a tradition to celebrate the author’s work at this time of year – and not only in Ireland. At the Bluecoat, acclaimed operatic tenor Johnny Kennedy performs a selection of favourites associated with the author, who could play piano and guitar and had a fine tenor voice, and whose writings abound with musical references, from parlour ballads to grand opera.
