SATURDAY 27 August 2011 at The Bluecoat. ABOVE THE BEATEN TRACK : HONKY TONK
Above the Beaten Track is a festival for the creative grass roots scene of Liverpool, returning to the Bluecoat in 2011, with more than a nod to honky tonk. Our philosophy is all about inclusion, not only giving a platform for the hardworking musicians of our city but letting our friends and partners have a hand in running the festival.
Presented by Mellowtone and Beaten Tracks, we also have stages hosted by Liverpool Acoustic, Lazy Genius and See the Sound, and culturepool will be returning once again to add festivities to the day with 2011 marking their 5th birthday. We also welcome back Draw the Line in the Hub along with TV Lux and more Hum-u-Ments… and of course the live acts, DJs and artists that we’re thrilled that can be with us.
We’ll be at the Bluecoat on Saturday 27th August, perfectly timed within their exhibition – HONKY TONK – SOUTH BY NORTH WEST – an exhibition that investigates the country and western aesthetic found both in the music and popular culture of Liverpool and the United States. Artists from both sides of the Atlantic and beyond bring together art, music and the honky tonk flavour, providing a contemporary response through painting, video, photography and installation – and we gave our lineup for 2011 a slightly more ‘Honky Tonk’ flavour than usual.
