Info:
Future Station is an opportunity for creative practitioners to come together and collectively break down the potential blockages to innovative new work and its potential to impact on audiences.

On 8th July we will welcome cultural theorist Mark Fisher to Metal to share his thinking on the state of contemporary arts and culture – with a focus on some of the potential blockages for innovative new work and its potential to impact on audiences.

Mark Fisher is an acclaimed writer and lecturer on art and popular culture, widely respected both as a music writer and a theorist. He has written regularly for Frieze, New Statesman, Sight & Sound and The Wire, where he was acting deputy editor for a year. He is also a lecturer for visual cultures at Goldsmiths and maintains one of the most successful weblogs on cultural theory, k-punk. His book Capitalist Realism is a provocative analysis of culture’s role in a capitalist society.

Mark will give a talk focussing particularly on the challenges faced by artists in our society, and will look at the value of artist networks likeFuture Station. We will also invite some artists we are working with to share some works in progress to provide inspiration and provoke discussion.

This promises to be a fascinating and provocative evening for practicing artists of all disciplines, and with free food provided on the night we hope to send you home with a full belly and a buzzing head.

The event is FREE, but booking is essential. Please click here to reserve your tickets through Eventbrite.
