Did you know that the Hard Days Night Hotel houses the largest collection of original Beatles-related artwork in the world?

This week they added another picture to the collection, an impressive oil painting of and about John Lennon. After it was unveiled, Joe Flannery, who was responsible for bringing the artwork here, hinted that the artist, Sven Reimers may soon be working on a Paul McCartney.

The Beatles’ former booking manager Joe Flannery unveiled an unseen John Lennon artwork at the Hard Days Night in Liverpool on Wednesday 23rd June, as part of the hotel’s activity in the run up to Beatles Day and the Lennon tribute season.
The painting by Hamburg portrait artist Sven Reimers, entitled ‘The John Lennon Story’, shows the story and background of Lennon’s life throughout the years and is constructed using mixed media. This is the first time the painting has been seen by the public since its completion in 1990.

One man that knows all about artistic talent is Joe Flannery, Cultural Ambassador to the city of Liverpool and former Beatles booking manager, who adds bringing Jimi Hendrix to London and discovering ABBA to his career highlights. Joe met artist Sven more than twenty years ago and fell in love with his work after seeing his exhibition in Liverpool:

“For a long time in my career I worked closely with the Beatles and can honestly say that Sven’s paintings truly capture the essence of the band. ‘The John Lennon Story’ in particular is a magnificent work, thoroughly deserving of its place amongst the Beatles artwork at the Hard Days Night Hotel. Its striking portrayal of John over the years, with Yoko, in front of The Dakota building and with the band, is second to none.”

Hamburg-born Sven, whose day-to-day job involves helping handicapped children, has always had a passion for art and an interest in the Beatles:

“I’m a massive fan of the Fab Four, and to combine my love of art with my love of the Beatles was a dream come true. I’m honoured that the Hard Days Night Hotel will be hosting my work.”

The painting, which stands at 8ft tall by 5ft wide, will be displayed leading up to the grand central staircase at the Hard Days Night hotel.
