Finally got to see the Matthew Holding exhibition at Ceri Hand’s gallery today. It ends tomorrow, Friday 22 May 2009. Its different from the usual gallery shows, having 10 architectural sculptures plus only a couple of wall-mounted pieces in the viewing room. They’re strange constructions, looking like houses but not quite practicable so they stir the imagination.
Matthew Houlding: Sons of Pioneers
10 April – 22 May 2009
Drawing on Structuralist and Formalist ideas of architectural design and the relationships between intersecting materials and planes, contrasting geometry is framed by bold, primary coloured Perspex, which casts a Californian sunny glow over split level condo-like exteriors and interiors.
