JULIAN & CYNTHIA LENNON UNVEIL EUROPEAN PEACE MONUMENT IN LIVERPOOL TO CELEBRATE LENNON’S 70TH BIRTHDAY

It’s been a long but eventful day. We had to be at Liverpool Hilton early this morning for the press briefing, it was dull and cold then but as the wonderful Liverpool Signing Choir sang (and signed) Imagine, the sun came out and the sky was blue. There were several speeches, the young artist, Lauren Voiers did very well, I couldn’t have spoken in front of so many people at the age of 19. I thought Cynthia’s speech was the best, informal and still a scouse girl at heart, she encouraged people to stop mourning and celebrate John’s life and achievements. After the unveiling she made sure everyone raised their arms and joined in the singing of Give Peace a Chance.

The monument titled ‘Peace & Harmony’ is a large, fine, colourful piece with a globe, musical instruments, doves and a white feather designed by American artist Lauren Voiers and it was built in the USA before being shipped over to Chavasse Park in Liverpool. It was commissioned by the Global Peace Initiative, an American arts organisation dedicated to creating peace monuments around the world.

The monument will be a permanent fixture in the park giving people the opportunity to celebrate the life and spirit of Lennon and his message of peace.
