The Gallery in Stanhope St is becoming known for its innovative and esoteric exhibitions. The current one, which includes pottery, jewellery, prints, watercolours, acrylics, oil paintings and sculpture, features the work of well-established artists, alongside that of some new  entrants to the local art scene.

Anton Dolders oil-on-paper depiction of ‘Popeye Village, Malta’  demonstrates an unusual eye for perspective. Also featured are some of his local scenes, including an immaculate line drawing of St Luke’s Cathedral and an oil painting of the ‘Albert Dock Canal’.

The local theme continues with Pete Lynes’ work, where his oil-on-canvas work ‘The Chippy’ (the one in Penny Lane made famous by the Beatles’ song) has been attracting attention.

The ever-popular Martin Jones shows two of his exceptionally detailed tree paintings, ‘Maple Tree’ and ‘Gradation’ , as well as some of his humorous work.

Huw Lewis-Jones here features some of his striking limited-edition prints of such local architectural icons as ‘The Everyman Theatre’ (soon to be no more). These evening scenes have a vivid luminosity which each bring a moment in Liverpool’s night-life moment into sharp focus.

Sophie Green’s acrylic paintings and prints are augmented by a series of original cards and mini-artworks.

This is an eclectic exhibition featuring work of a consistently high standard, including that of many other artists than are mentioned here, and well worth making a special visit to see.
