July Exhibition at The People’s Centre

alan-doherty-1.jpgThe Gallery at The People’s Centre at 50-54 Mount Pleasant is a new place organised by John Fillis and his company ‘Capitalists of Culture‘.

Its really the entrance and reception area of the building which is used by Trade Unions and other local organisations but its quite easy to look around and any work shown there will be seen by a lot of people.

John plans to have a different exhibition by local artists every 4 weeks, the latest opened yesterday, July 10th and is due to finish on August 11th 2006.
Just 3 good artists are featured here…

Joe Ankrah
I like to show my feelings through my work, in the figures I portray. Telling people I care, about, who and want is important to me. I am not very good with words, so my paintings say it all.

Alan Doherty
My work represents my love of nature in all it’s forms and colours. I celebrate the diversity of all it’s fecundity, especially spring and summer capturing it’s variety of forms using watercolours, acrylics and mixed media.

Jeanne-Marie Kenny
I work primarily in oil on canvas but I also work in pen and ink, digital photography and digital illustration. In my approach to making art, I transform found images into glimpses into an alternative dream world, in other words, it’s based in reality but is also quietly surreal.

The Centre is open Monday to Friday 09.30 – 16.30 (Except public holidays)
