Free Drawing Workshops at The Bridewell

To compliment the Bridewell Studios current exhibition: How Things Fly, artist Nichola Pemberton will be running free drawing workshops that aim to encourage participants to use their body as a mark-making tool. Through a series of group activities participants will use physical experimentation and interaction to produce a variety of drawings in various media. The workshops aim to give an insight into how bodily movement can be used to create playful and inventive approaches to drawing.

The workshops are free and are open to anyone who is interested in experimenting with drawing. Nichola will also be running a workshop for children on Saturday 2nd of December.

Nichola Pemberton is a Leeds based artist who works with drawing and performance as integrated processes. Her work represents a physical and emotional engagement with the drawing process. For How Things Fly Nichola will show a series of large drawings produced while bouncing on a trampoline. Generating marks that map the trajectory of the body as it ascends and descends, the work traces the artist’s monotonous attempts to achieve a moment of temporary levitation. Creating a lasting residue of a transient and highly performative process, Trampolining Series invites us to observe the energy with which the original act was executed. Vigorous marks and volatile gestures articulate moments of lightness and weight through the expressive quality of line and the immediacy of the artist’s process.

Workshops are free and will take place:
Wednesday 29th November 13-15.00 for adults
Saturday 2nd December 14-16.00 for children
