08 businessconnect Culture Invest Launched

A kick-starter fund has been established to encourage businesses to invest in culture.

Launched on Wednesday October 4, 08 businessconnect Culture Invest aims to encourage businesses across Merseyside to develop new ways of marketing, developing and gaining profile for their business through investing in culture.

Members are able to apply for a matching investment for a cultural project – from commissioning art for the office, sponsoring a production to developing employees skills using the arts.

The fund has been established by Arts and Business, who are supported by Arts Council England and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport in partnership with 08 businessconnect.

Businesses can apply for between £500 to £2,000, with a January 2007 deadline for 08 businessconnect Culture Invest applications. And if businesses don’t have their own idea, Arts and Business will be happy to advise.

Janet Dunnett of Arts & Business, said: ”We want business to work with the arts and cultural sector, pushing their businesses to new creative heights – and with this fund the possibilities are endless. We help business people support the arts for business benefit, because good business and great art together create a richer society. Liverpool is a hotbed for the arts and culture and has a thriving economy. This fund should help businesses to engage fully with the cultural sector as the city heads towards 2008.”

If the applications prove successful, a pledge has been made to create a new fund in 2007.

Nichola Lee, Director of 08 businessconnect, said: ”Business has a huge role to play in developing Liverpool’s cultural scene which in turn will boost their own productivity by making the region a more attractive place to invest.

“08 businessconnect Culture Invest is a great way of giving both a good kick start. Our members are already expressing an interest and I’m confident the relationship between the two sectors will be a major success story by 2008.”
