Photographers of all ages and abilities have just one week left to enter Liverpool Cathedral’s annual photography competition.
This year the Cathedral is inviting photographers to submit not just one but two images that meet this year’s themeLiverpool: City of Contrasts. Entries need to be in by August 27th.
The 2013 competition allows photographers to showcase even more of their work and brings in the added challenge of choosing contrasting images. It is believed to be the first photography competition in the North West to ask photographers to submit two pieces of work as one entry.
Possible interpretations include the contrast between day and night, old and new, architecture, people, or the various activities that happen in a single space in the city.
Judges for this year are renowned photographer Mike McCartney (chair), award-winning former Echo photographer Martin Birchall, Sandra Penketh (Director of Art Galleries for National Museums Liverpool) and renowned Liverpool artist Anthony Brown.
People can enter photographs in two categories – Contrasts in the Hope Street Area and Contrasts in the City Centre and both categories accept junior (up to age 17) and adult entries. People can enter more than one category. Rules and entry forms are available from the Cathedral’s welcome desk, by post or download from www.liverpoolcathedral.org
Eryl Parry, Director of Enterprise for Liverpool Cathedral said: “The entries to our competition get better every year, so we decided it was time to set a new challenge. We have introduced an element or curation – we want photographers to pair up contrasting images which for them sum up our city’s vibrant and sometimes surprising contrasts. Liverpool is such a diverse city that there is plenty of choice for thought-provoking subject matter. I am sure it will make for our most fascinating exhibition of entries yet.”
All entries will go on display at the Cathedral between 12th-15th September and members of the public will be invited to choose the ‘People’s Winner’ alongside the prizes awarded by the judges. Prizes for the 2013 competition include hotel stays, theatre and exhibition tickets, meals, photographic workshops and tours. Commended and winning entries will then go on display between 7th September – 28th October 2013.
