Karen Henley and Jazamin Sinclair
Well done Jaz and Karen. I certainly agree with the quote ‘hardworking and diligent approach’ and ‘what their business services offer to emerging local artists’.
Liverpool artists exhibit award-winning qualities
Karen Henley and Jazamin Sinclair, partners of businesses HeadSpace & Capture Photographers, are one of three finalists of the prestigious Enterprise Award at the forthcoming North West region Princes Trust Celebrate Success Awards.
The Enterprise Award recognises young people who have overcome barriers and achieved success in creating a sustainable business or social enterprise.
Nominated by Liz Thornber, Princes Trust Programme Manager, for seeing the business partnership offering as ‘unique, different and interesting’, they have been shortlisted for the award because of their ‘hardworking and diligent approach’ and because of ‘what their business services offer to emerging local artists’.
Henley and Sinclair were both unemployed creatives before getting involved with the Princes Trust. After being unable to find work, they decided to go self-employed and were put in touch with the Princes Trust, who gave them a start-up grant for equipment to help their businesses take off.
Capture Photographers were founded in July 2006. Passionate photographers Henley & Sinclair capture uniquely their client’s vision by producing quality photography in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. They photograph weddings, civil ceremonies, conferences and occasions as well as corporate and business events in Liverpool and the North West. They also produce fine-art limited edition photographs.
HeadSpace@EggSpace was founded in July 2005. The Egg is a popular meeting place at the heart of Liverpool’s culture and is a unique fusion of an independent gallery space and cafe. HeadSpace’s policy is to provide a platform to help and encourage new and emerging artists from around Liverpool by organising and managing art exhibitions.
Henley and Sinclair’s Princes Trust mentor, Julia Emelogu, has supported them by giving them confidence and advice to improve and to help their business get going. Emelogu commented, “Although they are both artists, they have become confident and professional businesswomen who have created a professional business model that benefits both them and the artists, while embracing social media as a tool to increase awareness of both the artists and the exhibitions.”
When asked, Henley said the following about the good news: “It was unexpected to be nominated for this award and now we have been shortlisted to the final three in the Northwest! This is a really positive step forward, giving us confidence to make our business & self employment a success.”
Sinclair added: “It is amazing to have been shortlisted for this award! Neither of us has ever been nominated for an award like this so we are really excited about it! It’s brilliant for our businesses and for any artists who are associated with HeadSpace. Back in 2008 we were still unemployed and it’s great to be recognised for our hard work and for what we do.”
The Princes Trust Celebrate Success Awards Ceremony in the Northwest Region will take place on Thursday, 4th November 2010 at The Lancashire Cricket Club, Old Trafford, Manchester.
