VIBRANT COLOURS, LIGHT, SHAPES AND MOVEMENT OF PAINT, ARE EXPRESSIVELY USED THROUGHOUT LIVERPOOL ARTIST CLAIRE MCCARTHY’S ARTWORK BASED ON THE RIVER MERSEY.

Claire’s project “Expressive Art on the Mersey” is based on her emotive capture of views of the River Mersey, maritime industries and the historic Mersey Ferry crossing with the people who commute, visit or work there.

This exhibition follows on from the exhibition called  Making Waves with seascapes from our collection with 3d works created through the Eco Schools Programme and in conjunction with our Coastal Wirral exhibition of works from our collection in Gallery Eleven as well as our permanent maritime collection in Gallery Eight.

Claire McCarthy started her art practice in the mid 1990’s evolving through different phases to achieve a contemporary vibrant portfolio. Watercolours are the foundations of all her large pieces, initially focusing on “Urban Spiritual Expression”. She started working on her current ongoing project in June 2016 – painting, drawing and sailing on the ferries and working on the landing stages.

Download our WAG WM Marc Apr 2017 Newsletter for more information about other exhibitions on show and coming. Please note that the gallery is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
